God have Called You to Be a Giver

“Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long suffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.” (Colossians 3:12-14 KJV)

Giving is the result of knowing how generous God is. Understanding that nothing in this world belongs to you lets you give freely and wholeheartedly. God provides everything for you. He supplies all your needs according to His riches in heaven. False teachings will tell you to collect money, and use it to minister to people. This is extremely wrong. God is sufficient, and He will not let His children lack resources. He wants His followers to minster for the furtherance of His kingdom thus, He will supply their needs.

A biblical principle that we should practice is this: “it is better to give than to receive”. A person who is a giver is much more blessed than a receiver. Giving creates a mood of peace and gratification. It makes you feel good and feel blessed.

Giving is an exhibition of admiration. David challenged the people to devote their service for God. David taught the people of how true givers do the act of giving. It should never be given reluctantly, under pressure, and merely for the recognition of man.

The highest form of praise is to offer God all that we can give. The people responded to David’s appeal and they gave wholeheartedly. They rejoiced with their giving and David blessed the Lord together with his flock. “Thine Oh Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is yours. Thine is the kingdom, Oh Lord, and You are exalted as head above all.”

Always keep in mind that through giving, we became followers of God. His people often used the resources God has given them to carry on His work. In Exodus 25, the people of God used the resources for His glory. It says, “God told the people to bring offering of gold, silver, and bronze; fine linens and other fabrics; oil, spices, and incense; and precious stones and gems, to build the tabernacle in which He was to dwell.” The attitude of giving is evident in most chapters of the Bible. In the Book of Acts chapter 2 & 4, we can see God’s people being delighted to sell their possessions including houses and land to give to the apostles and distribute to the people in need.

Are you ready to be a giver? Are you more of a giver than a receiver? What can you give for the furtherance of God’s kingdom? God blesses a cheerful giver. He wants His people to understand the value of giving.
